Mr. Brainwash - Love is the Answer

LOVE IS THE ANSWER

This is by far my favorite Mr. Brainwash to date.

OH GP!!!!

Ok, I am slightly obsessed with GP and by slightly I mean A LOT!

I may or may not follow he blog religiously and possibly have a girl crush on her :)

Here are a couple of my favorite looks she has put together for her followers:

Entrenched

It's trench coat season...

They complete any look be it blackest black skinnies, deconstructed denim or corporate attire and make you look well put together instantly.

My favorite looks are by Julia Restoin-Roitfeld and Kate Moss. Just  look at them; no wonder why trench coat is still the coolest outerwear staple of our closets.

Urban Cinderellas with Cap-Toe Shoes

I heart Gwyneth's turquoise pumps and how they  add instant zing to her otherwise neutral combination.

JCrew, Asos and Stuart Weitzman carry more affordable selections if you don't want to break the bank for Manolos, Louboutins or Vuittons :)

Hollywood is obsessed with Christian Louboutin's clear cap-toe stilettos

Veggie Burgers

As a devoted Whole Foods lover, I often enjoy their Bella Burger , well maybe a little too often :) Since my tastebuds have been crying for acchange, I have started looking for a recipe that I could re-create at home.

I found it at www.ohsheglows.com

I really like Angela's healthy, vegan recipes with a kick.

Thanks Ange!!!!

Our Perfect Veggie Burger

Crunchy, chewy, with a crispy outer shell, these delicious veggie burgers have all the right elements we love in a veggie burger. Light on the beans, these burgers aren’t mushy in the middle, but have a nice mixture of breadcrumbs, chopped almonds, sunflower seeds, and seasonings to round them out. Best of all, they work great in the oven, frying pan, or even on the BBQ. They can also be made gluten-free by using gluten-free oats, Tamari, and breadcrumbs. Don’t have breadcrumbs? Just process a few slices of bread in the food processor for instant breadcrumbs e.g. 3 slices of Ezekiel bread.

Yield: 8 burgers

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup onion, diced
  • 1 large garlic clove, minced
  • Flax eggs: 2.5 tbsp ground flax + 1/2 cup warm water, mixed in bowl
  • 1 cup oats, processed into flour* (other flours might work)
  • 1.5 cups bread crumbs (I processed 3 pieces of Ezekiel bread until fine crumb)*
  • 1 cup grated carrots
  • 1 cup cooked black beans, rinsed and roughly pureed or mashed
  • Heaping 1/4 cup finely chopped parsley (or fresh herb of choice)
  • 1/3 cup almonds, chopped (toasted if preferred)
  • 1/2 cup sunflower seeds, (toasted if preferred)
  • 1 tbsp. Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 1 tbsp Tamari (soy sauce)
  • 1.5 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp. cumin
  • 1 tsp. oregano
  • Kosher salt and black pepper, to taste (I used about 1/2 tsp kosher salt)

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350F (if baking). In a large skillet, sauté onions and garlic in 1/2 tbsp oil. Mix your flax egg together in a small bowl and set aside for at least 10 mins while you prepare the rest of the ingredients.
2. Place all ingredients (except spices and salt) into a large mixing bowl and stir very well. Now, add seasonings and salt to taste.
3. With slightly wet hands, shape dough into patties. Pack dough tightly as this will help it stick together. I made 8 medium patties.
4. Cooking methods: You can fry the burgers in a bit of oil on a skillet over medium heat for about 5 minutes on each side. If baking in the oven, bake for 25-30 mins (15-17 minutes on each side) at 350F, until golden and crisp. For the BBQ, pre-bake the burgers for about 15 minutes in oven before placing on a pre-heated grill until golden and crisp on each side. Our preferred method of cooking was frying in the skillet!!
GF Note: To make these burgers gluten-free, use certified GF oats, GF Tamari, and gluten-free breadcrumbs.

Sometimes I cook....

Most times I don't :)

And even though I am really good at it, I don't like cooking for one so I usually opt for a quick bite at Whole Foods or sushi if not a protein shake :)

That being said, I'm going to delve into cooking for a few posts or so...

I would like to share with you my friend's to skirt steak marinade that's to die for if you like steak

                     Step 1: Mix all ingredients
                     Step 2: Marinade skirt steak
                     Step 3: Grill
                     Step 4: Enjoy! YUM!

1/2 cup olive oil
1/3 cup soy sauce
4 scalions chopped
2 large garlic cloves pressed
1/4 cup lime juice
1/2 tsp crushed red pepper
1/2 tsp cummin
3 tbs dark drown sugar

We could all use more art after all

Mr. Brainwash UK Edition

Apparently I can't get enough of Mr. Brainwash

I woved to own *at least* one piece when I move to my spacious TriBeCa loft :-)

One can dream, right?

 YOU BETCHA!

Black Lipstick? Just in time for Halloween

Ikos has this uber cool set of "thinking lipsticks " that reacts to the pH of your skin by changing colors and adapting to your skin tone.

The black turns from light purplish pink to fushia while the white changes from frosty white to light pink to lavender pink to cotton candy pink.

I am notorious for carrying at least 2-3 lipsticks/lipglosses around. This might just be the solution to declutter and carry one universally flattering color for all my skin tones in between seasons.

The black reminds me of Halloween for sure :)

They are $20 each and can be bought at

Mr. Brainwash - Woof you!!!!

WOOF YOU!

Prada Marfa sign - Lilly's Apartment in Gossip Girl

I want one!

The sign! And, yes I will take the apartment as well :)

Prada Marfa is a permanent sculpture by the Berlin artists Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset that was installede back in 2005 and is now abonded. be installed.

The sculpture is meant to look like a Prada store, with minimalist white stucco walls and a window display housing real Prada shoes and handbags from the fall collection.

The installation was intended to never be repaired, so it might slowly degrade back into the natural landscape.

Three days after the sculpture was completed, vandals graffitied the exterior, and broke into the building stealing handbags and shoes.

Suno Sneakers - Low Fuss Meets High Fashion

For the fashionable fella in your life...

With the holdidays behind us and Valentines Day ahead, one question remains the same: what to get for the fashionable fella in our lives?

Using the uber cool Ryan Gosling - whom I have bumped into multiple times in East Village this past summer ( yes, he is even more adorable in person and super down to earth) - as our muse, here is a few ideas you might want to consider.

Rag & Bone City Case ($290)
I am not crazy about the idea of a man purse, but a chic and professional case that stores his computer and work essentials is an entirely acceptable accessory. The City Case by Rag & Bone is our top pick this season, thanks to its sturdy design and stylish mix of brown and black leather. Even better: its considerable size means it can double as an overnight bag too! Versatile and cool? Yes, please!

The Elder Statesman Bunny Echo Ribbed Cashmere Beanie Hat ($230)
If you'd like to give your guy a beanie this year, make sure it's the Elder Statesman Bunny Echo Ribbed Cashmere Beanie Hat. The high quality, uniquely soft blue cashmere elevates this typically utilitarian piece, making it a truly luxe and cozy fashion find he'll want to wear all winter long. If you'd like to snag a thriftier option, do check out J. Crew's
Cashmere Beanie Hat ($58) too.

Nixon The Sentry Leather Watch ($550)
A nice watch can add some polish to any look and is an accessory he'll wear every day, which is why we believe it's important to invest in a truly luxurious option, like this one from Nixon. Designed exclusively for Barneys New York, this is one collaboration that happens to be perfect for you both-fashionable to you and cool to him! The minimalist, all-noir design gives the piece modern look, while the leather wrist strap lends itself to a comfortable fit, so it's an all-around winner in our book.

The Black Keys El Camino ($24) in Vinyl
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Black Keys!!!!  And for any guy who is a fan of The Black Keys-and let's be honest, they either are or they should be-you can expect to find the duo's newly released album, El Camino, high on their wish list. Sure, you can snag the CD or download it on iTunes, but we happen to think that the vinyl version would make for a more thoughtful and cool gift idea, don't you?

Zara Leather Ankle Boots($129)
They say the first thing you notice about a man are his shoes, so why not ensure he makes a great impression with Zara's Leather Ankle Boots! We love a lace-up boot and think this slightly worn-in version will definitely bring that sexy, rough-and-tumble element to all of his casual ensembles. He will look so good, it's practically a gift for you too!

UP by Jawbone Wristband + iPhone App ($99)
This wristband from UP by Jawbone would be a seriously cool gift for anyone, but we think the tech-savvy, health-oriented man in your life would especially get a kick out of it. The wristband works together with its iPhone app to help you live a healthier life by tracking your daily activity, sleep patterns, and even meals. It's even designed to vibrate when you have been inactive too long, reminding you that you need to move around. And that's not all! This amazing wristband also doubles as an alarm clock, which vibrates to wake you up at the best moment in your natural sleep just before your desired wake time. Do yourself and your man a favor and pre-order one today!

Polaroid Z340 Instant Digital Camera ($300)
If the man you're shopping for is always up on the latest technology, we've got the perfect gift idea to ensure you're on his "favorite" list this year: Polaroid's Z340 Instant Digital Camera. The latest generation of the Polaroid features a full-functioning digital camera and printer that transforms images into 3x4" photos instantly, so you can share them with friends and family right after you take them. We have a feeling this will be a hit come New Year's Eve!-Jessica Baker

Object of Desire

I am not a fan of the one-piece per se BUT this La Perla & Jean Paul Gaultier number is too hot to ignore and it's very edgy and rocker chic to boot.
