Neons & Neutrals

                                                                  images from www

To say the S/S 11 shows were bright is an understatement, to put it mildly.

Between the fluorescent pink column skirts at Jil Sander, electric blue accents at Versace, and acid yellow sweater dresses at Cacharel, there was enough neon on the runways to power the Jem and the Holograms 1986 World Tour.

But while I love a kitschy '80s reference, I do not want to look like a cartoon character—so what's a fashion-loving girl to do? Easy: simply temper my neons with traditional neutrals to create a sophisticated take on this of-the-moment look!

If you're hesitant about committing to an article of clothing, no worries, there are loads of accessories that will work too - you can refer to my post about the neon yellow Kate Spade purse here?

However you incorporate neon and nude into your wardrobe, just make sure you go for uncomplicated silhouettes and otherwise understated makeup.

By opting for simplicity, you'll keep the focus on the color—which is exactly what you want!

Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty

As I tweeted earlier today, I am looking forward to checking out Savage Beauty upon our return to the States.

This is a must-go cannot-miss-out exhibition that celebrates the late Alexander McQueen's (1969-2010) extraordinary contributions to fashion.

He was one of the most influential, radical and provocative designers of his generation. From his post-graduate collection of 1992 to his final runway presentation which took place after his death in February 2010, McQueen challenged and expanded the understanding of fashion beyond utility to a conceptual expression of culture, race, class, gender, seuxality, politics, and identity.

Approximately one hundred examples will be on view, including signature designs such as the bumster trouser, the kimono jacket, and the Origami frock coat.

I LOVE McQueen and have many beloved pieces of his in my personal collection. My style has been tagged edgy, tough, aggressive on countless occasions (mostly by men) every single time I carried a piece by him. Guess what boys? Beat it! McQueen makes me feel confident, sexy and empowered!

So it was much to my surprise to have come across this quote of his today "I like to think of myself as a plastic surgeon with a knife", "I want to empower women. I want people to be afraid of the women I dress", "People find my things sometimes aggressive. But I don't see it as aggressive. I see it as romantic, dealing with the dark side of personality", and 'There is no way back for me now. I am going to take you on journeys you've never dreamed were possible."

Thank you Mr. McQueen for empowering women around the world with your exquisite designs and blessing us with your creativity and provocative voice through fashion. You are dearly missed!

Louis Vuitton Creatures

London-based artist Billie Achilleos has been commissioned by Louis Vuitton to create four beautiful “creatures” using LV’s small leather goods to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Louis Vuitton SLG Savoir Faire collection.

Four Louis Vuitton animals were born: an Armadillo, an Beaver, a Chameleon and a Grasshopper.

Karl Lagerfeld for Diet Coke

In 2001, Karl Lagerfeld shed 90-some pounds by going on a (completely unhealthy, but disconcertingly effective) diet that consisted of stewed vegetables and Diet Coke.

His love with the DC hasn't wavered much since then, as he is rumored to have his own private Diet Coke butler who brings him the drink in a Lalique crystal goblet, and drink nothing else but the beverage.

To pay homage, Lagerfeld has designed a 2nd collection of limited-edition bottles for Diet Coke that will be sold beginning June 2011.

The three new "Love It Light" designs feature Lagerfeld's signature ponytailed silhouette and will be sold individually, as well as in prisim-shaped collector's boxes.

This somewhat reminds me of the Missoni/Pellegrino colllaboration. And yes, as a Diet Coke lover, I definitely want some Karl on my Diet Coke ;)

Byredo

Yes, I blogged about Byredo earlier.

Now, meet Mr. Uber cool Ben Gorham.

He is the founder of Stockholm based fragrance house Byredo. He exudes a certain je ne sais quoi and his scents are out of this world.

As a long time NYC Bond fanatic, all I can say is it is time to cheat on Bond as I am officially hooked on Byredo!

In fact, I finally ordered Bal d'Afrique.

Yay me!
